The Forest Society recently had the pleasure of hosting neighbors and new friends from Building Community in NH at the Concord Conservation Center. Guests enjoyed a BYO lunch and an easy-going walk on the trail adjacent to the Merrimack River Floodplain.

Families gathered on the deck overlooking the floodplain to enjoy their box lunches, while children planted Oxalis “shamrock” bulbs to take home as a craft project. Staff led a short hike down to the Floodplain and out to the Merrimack River. It was a beautiful Saturday, made even more special by the company of a group eager to spend time outdoors during peak fall foliage season.

Our guests come from Ukraine, Afghanistan, Congo, Haiti, and the Rohingya region of Myanmar. This rich diversity is part of what makes BCNH’s work so unique—and it provided Forest Society hosts with a meaningful opportunity to listen, learn, and share.

Building Community in NH supports refugees and other immigrants as they navigate safe, healthy, and connected lives in New Hampshire. According to President Richard Minard, “We do this work because New Hampshire needs a growing workforce, our communities need young, energetic families, and displaced people from around the world need a welcoming place to call home.”
