The 2026 Five Hikes Challenge: Stay Tuned for Registration Details!
August 15 – October 31, 2026
The Forest Society’s popular do-it-yourself hiking adventure will be back for its seventh year with a new theme and hikes.
Whether you're hiking for solitude, joy, or discovery, each trail is a reminder of the shared places we all cherish — and a chance to be part of a growing community that gives back to the land. This year, we invite you to:
- Walk the land, share the love: Post photos and tag us @ForestSociety using #5HikesChallenge to inspire others.
- Demonstrate thoughtful stewardship: Follow the Wildly Responsible principles — plan, pack, prepare, care for others, and protect the land.
- Give back to the hiking community: Pack out some trash (even if it’s not yours), make a mobile or trailhead donation, or join a volunteer stewardship workday.
- Inspire belonging: Share what makes these forests meaningful to you and encourage others to learn more about our mission.
How It Works
From August 15 through October 31, participants choose five hiking or walking destinations from a list of 30+ scenic Forest Society properties located across New Hampshire — including the Seacoast, Merrimack Valley, Monadnock, Dartmouth/Lake Sunapee, Lakes, White Mountains, and North Country regions. You can also track your progress and explore destinations using the Forest Society Mobile App (powered by OuterSpatial).
