Erosion issues on the trails at Mount Major

Support Sustainable Trail Improvements at Mount Major.

We're currently constructing a sustainable trail to take the place of about 1/3 mile of the existing Main/Blue Trail that is badly eroded (pictured). In addition to being a more enjoyable hiking experience, the new trail section should also require much less maintenance over time. It will also be a major ecological improvement, reducing runoff and silting into Lake Winnipesaukee.

Save the Date for the Forest Society's Annual Meeting

The 123rd Annual Meeting will take place on Saturday, September 21 in Peterborough. The meeting will include field trips to explore our Monadnock region properties and a keynote address by Annie Proulx, author of the non-fiction book Fen, Bog & Swamp: A Short History of Peatland Destruction and Its Role in the Climate Crisis, and the Pulitzer-Prize winning novel The Shipping News.

Registration opens in early August.

A Family Tradition of Conservation Continues In Hopkinton and Henniker with Donation to Forest Society

Bob and Binney Wells, Hopkinton residents since 1971, have long been interested in land conservation. In 1984, they donated a conservation easement to the Forest Society that protected 119 acres in Hopkinton/Henniker. But that was just the beginning.
