Earth Day at Mount Major is a great way to join the fight and do what's right!

We are grateful to local organizations supporting the event this year: Alton Centennial Rotary Club - thank you!

This year we have 4 WAYS to participate:

green pick up truck with a number of large trash bags of collected debris.

#1: DIY Trail Trash Challenge

9:00am - 1:00pm (No Registration Needed)

Take the DIY Trail Trash Challenge and give a little love for the mountain, the lakes, and the wildlife that calls this area home!

#2: Stewardship Projects Workday

9:30am - 2:30pm (Registration Required - Space is limited)

In 2024 we completed the second phase of a sustainable trail upgrade on the lower portion of the Main Trail (blue) - at this event we will need to work to continue to maintain that section of the Main trail. Under the pavilion area and near the trailhead, a glow-up will take place, including some carpentry repairs. There may also be an opportunity to hike the Boulder Trail to near the summit to help make process on graffiti removal!  If any of this sounds like a fun day for you -

#3: Learn more about the Volunteer Trailhead Outreach Program (VTOP) at Mount Major

9:00am - 2:30pm (No Registration Needed)

Visit the trailhead to talk with our volunteers & staff involved in the program to learn more about the program that was developed as a result of 2019 Leave No Trace Hotspot designation. We are always looking for new volunteers and help protect the recreational opportunities at the mountain.

Can't make it, but want to learn more about the program? Join the online informational session on April 14th.
