"Power of Place" Film

Interview of Videographer Jerry Monkman by Roger Wood

Roger Wood interviews Portsmouth photographer Jerry Monkman, whose video “The Power of Place” explores the places, issues, and people affected by Northern Pass, a proposed 180-mile long electricity transmission line project in New Hampshire that will carry electricity from Quebec to southern New England.

Monkman is opposed to the $1.6 billion project and has a sign on his lawn expressing his opposition, where there are few if any other signs.

Monkman spent months in the field applying his signature landscape photography style to filming the places in the path of the project, including the Appalachian Trail and the White Mountain National Forest. Monkman updated the 2015 film last year. Both are available on Vimeo.
