Join Carl Martland as he shares his love of dragonflies with us. Go to a pond or a stream any sunny day in the summer and you will see dragonflies and damselflies. His presentation will be filled with photos of the more than two dozen species of dragonflies that you too could find in the fields and wetlands near wherever you live in the North Country.

Join us for the 2nd week of the Bretzfelder Summer Series. What do a turtle’s shell, a skunk’s stripes, and an owl’s talons all have in common? They are all examples of adaptations that help the animal survive. Join a Squam Lakes Natural Science Center naturalist to meet some of our animal ambassadors and discover the adaptations that help them survive and thrive in the wild places they live.

Discover how the Eastern White Pine became a powerful symbol of resistance in the years leading up to the American Revolution. This program explores the 1772 Pine Tree Riot in Weare and the opposition to the King’s Broad Arrow Policy, which reserved the tallest pines for the British Royal Navy. Learn how these events helped spark revolutionary sentiment in New England and shaped the fight for independence. Presented by forest historian and retired U.S. Forest Service naturalist David Govatski.
